How Economists Define and Measure Treatment Effects

How Economists Define and Measure Treatment Effects The term treatment effect  is defined as the average causal effect of a variable on an outcome variable that is of scientific or economic interest. The term first gained traction in the field of medical research where is originated. Since its inception, the term has broadened and has begun to be used more generally as in economic research. Treatment Effects in Economic Research Perhaps one of the most famous examples of treatment effect research in economics is that of a training program or advanced education. At the lowest level, economists have been interested in comparing the earnings or wages of two primary groups: one who participated in the training program and one who did not. An empirical study of treatment effects generally begins with these types of straightforward comparisons. But in practice, such comparisons have the great potential to lead researchers to misleading  conclusions of causal effects, which brings us to the primary problem in treatment effects research. Classic Treatment Effects Problems and Selection Bias In the language of scientific experimentation, a treatment is something done to a person that might have an effect. In the absence of randomized, controlled experiments, discerning the effect of a treatment like a college education or a job training program on income can be clouded by the fact that the person made the choice to be treated. This is known in the scientific research community as selection bias and, it is one of the principle  problems in the estimation of treatment effects. The problem of selection bias essentially comes down to the chance that treated individuals may differ from non-treated individuals for reasons other than the treatment itself. As such, the outcomes such treatment would actually a combined result of the persons propensity to choose the treatment and the effects of the treatment itself. Measuring the treatments true effect while screening out the effects of selection bias is the classic treatment effects problem. How Economists Handle Selection Bias In order to measure true treatment effects, economists have certain methods available to them. A standard method is to regress the outcome on other predictors that do not vary with time as well as whether the person took the treatment or not. Using the previous edition treatment example introduced above, an economist may apply a regression of wages not only on years-of-education but also on test scores meant to measure abilities or motivation. The researcher may come to find that both years-of-education and test scores are positively correlated with subsequent wages, so when interpreting the findings the coefficient found on years of education has been partly cleansed of the factors predicting which people would have chosen to have more education. Building upon the use of regressions in treatment effects research, economists may turn to what is known as the potential outcomes framework, which was originally introduced by statisticians. Potential outcomes models use essentially the same methods as switching regression models, but potential outcomes models are not tied to a linear regression framework as are switching regressions.  A more advanced method based upon these modeling techniques is the Heckman two-step.

Accounting information system Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words

Accounting information system - Essay Example The client makes an order for a particular product to the purchasing department where the clerk will process the order and forward it to the inventory personnel. The inventory personnel will confirm availability of the products and service. Upon confirmation, the clerk sends a confirmation to the customer and begins the billing process. The billing process is done by the clerk who then sends an invoice to the client for the products in the purchase order. Once the client receives the invoice, then they can make the necessary payments to the accounts clerk before collecting the products purchased. Payments can be made by cheque or by cash to the accounts department of the company. The revenue cycle comprise four major processes that yield different files and documents that are used both in the revenue cycle and in other cycles in the company. These processes and the subsequent files and documents include: i) Order processing: this process is initiated by the customer who makes an order for particular products from the company. He issues a purchase order to the clerk in the purchasing department. The clerk stores the purchase order in a file named Purchase_orders. This file contains all orders made by different customers for different clients. The clerk also creates a file for the customers where the details for all the customers are stored. ii) Billing: Once the clerk files the purchase order, he confirms availability of products from the inventory file maintained by the inventory clerk and issues a confirmation to the client. At this point the customer is given an invoice of products in the purchase order. A copy of the invoice is stored in the invoices file. This file has all the invoices stored in the company. iii) Payment: Once the customer is issued with the invoice by the purchasing department clerk, he then can make payments for the ordered products to the accounts clerk. Adventure of the Speckled Band Essay Example for Free

Adventure of the Speckled Band Essay Compare how James Watson and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle Create Fear and Tension in Talking in Whispers and The Adventure of the Speckled Band  In the novel Talking in Whispers and the short story The Adventure of the Speckled Band both Watson and Doyle use fear and tension within their stories to get the attention of the reader. Both authors create fear and tension but they create it in different ways and they use different writing techniques to create fear and tension one reason for this could be that the stories were written at different periods of time. The Adventure of the Speckled Band by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle was written towards the end of the 19th century and is set in Victorian England, whereas Talking in Whispers by James Watson was written towards the end of the 20th century and is set in Chile. Both Stories however contain elements of fear and tension. In the course of my essay I shall examine the different ways that both authors use fear and tension to their advantage. James Watson creates fear and tension in the novel Talking in Whispers by using many different writing techniques. These techniques are very effective in creating fear and tension. Watson uses techniques such as juxtapositioning, identifying the reader with the characters, chapter endings, direct speech and inter-chapters. These all, when used correctly create fear and tension.  The fear and tension created by James Watson when he uses juxtapositioning is very effective as it gives you one scene and in the next paragraph you get a total contrast of it. This surprises the reader, which builds up suspense and a feel of uncertainty. An example of juxtapositioning from Watsons novel would be. The crowd thundered its joy.  From tomorrow all will be different.  Andres knew for certain his friend Horacio was dead  From this example you can see that the crowd thunders with joy is a scene of hope, promise and joy but then immediately afterwards you get a scene of violence, horror and despair Andres knew for certain his friend Horacio was dead. This all helps to build up tension and fear.  Watson makes you feel sorry and sad and angry for characters if anything happens to them. Watson does this by identifying the reader with Andres. What Watson does is he lets you into Andres mind he lets you see his feelings he lets you feel his pain he lets you know his sorrow. An example of this technique would be near to the end of page 12. Jordan Clement GCSE English Coursework 4/27/2007  I should have let myself be taken theres no honour in this, skulking in brambles with only a scratch to show for my bravery.  From this example you can see Watson lets you know what Andres is feeling and thinking. From the sentence I should have let myself be taken we know that Andres is not a coward and will not back down to the CNI (Chiles secret police) we also know from this that Andres is going to try to avenge his family and friends. This starts to build up the fear and tension within the novel. Another main way James Watson builds up a lot of tension and fear within Talking In Whispers is by using chapter endings. What James Watson does is he leaves you at a pinnacle at the end of most chapters which makes the reader want to read on and see what will happen to Andres or Isa and or Don Chailey this is a very effective way to build up tension within a novel a works very well in this particular novel. A good example of chapter endings would be the end of chapter three. All youll be needing is a cool head, lots of luck and he leaned forwards with exaggerated secrecy. And a porters uniform  This creates tension because you want to know what will happen next, you want to know what the importance of the porters uniform is, and you want to know will Andres get caught. This makes you want to read on and it makes you think what will happen to Andres. This technique builds up fear and tension throughout the novel.  In Talking in Whispers Watson uses other common techniques of writing which all helps in building up fear and tension, he uses techniques such as similes, imagery and metaphors. His mind stayed where it was, unmolested, a little black box inside something nothing could get at. Resting like a mouse in hole.  The simile like a mouse in a hole portrays Andres mind when he was being tortured. They could hurt his body but they couldnt touch his mind it was resting like a mouse in a hole. The sentence resting like a mouse in hole also uses imagery as well as using a simile the simile creates the image of his mind being a mouse resting in hole unaware of what is happening to Andres body. In the torture scene on pages 105 106 Andres calls his torturers not by their names but by names that reflect their personality he calls his torturers snake and the hog the names are metaphors, which lets you know the personality of the characters. Snake for example is a cunning and devious animal and extremely deadly. This again is another type of imagery it lets you see pictures from words. This way of writing is very effective when it comes to creating fear and tension. Jordan Clement GCSE English Coursework 4/27/2007  Another way fear and tension is created in Talking in Whispers is by telling you what is happening in Chile at the time. This does not move the story any further forward with Andres it just tells you the evilness of the Junta. This technique is called  Inter-chapters and is very effective in causing the reader to perhaps fear the Junta.

Lord Of The Flies: Chapter 4-7 Notes :: essays research papers

1. When the fire goes out it symbolizes the loss of all remaining civility and the beginning of absolute savagery. The fire was the boys' only link to the past, as it was the one true technology they had. Fire symbolizes man's domination and manipulation of nature. As the fire goes out the boys are no longer people, but animals. It is also important to note that the fire was voluntarily allowed to die. This tells us that the boys voluntarily became savages, so this represents not only the loss of a civilized society, but also the betrayal of it. When the fire goes out, it also signifies the loss of hope. If the boys believed that they would be rescued, then they would not allow the fire to go out. Again, because of the fire being let out voluntarily it also represents the betrayal of hope. When the fire goes out, the boys no longer want to be a part of civilization or be rescued by it.2. The beast from the air is a dead man, who is attached to a parachute, falling from the sky. The beast from water is a figment of their imagination. Once again the loss of civilization and the old ways are represented. The dead man in the parachute, falling slowly, from the old world and civilization, represents the steady decline of the old ways which have been implemented in the new society and therefore the distinction of being civilized itself and the death of it. The beast represents mankind's fear of an outside threat as well as the evil and wrong doing that mankind brings upon itself. Fear of an outside threat has been a characteristic that mankind has had ever since we walked on two legs. Ancient peoples saw demons, and now many people claim to see UFO's and aliens; it is quite plausible that a very primitive society would see a beast. As evil and fear are created from man, so is the beast. The beast, being a fictitious creation of man and one that appears in every society, becomes no longer a physical entity, but a fear rooted deep in the human psyche; perhaps a fear of ourselves.3. The parachute symbolizes the forces of human behavior that attempt to hold the fabric of society intact. The parachute, however, fails to hold society afloat indefinitely. The parachute slowly loses to nature (in this case gravity, but symbolically mankind's animal instincts and desires). Lord Of The Flies: Chapter 4-7 Notes :: essays research papers 1. Visualising Alternate Futures of a City

The excitedly excessive secret plans of future, with air lanes clicking with winging vehicles and keen practical existences has ever struck a chord in our Black Marias. The appeal of these phantasmagoric scenarios have survived non merely in architecture, but elsewhere and largely so in films. It is through films that the uncommon feeling can be encountered with the most dynamic result. But what is it about these future landscapes set out by movie shapers that engages us so much? This can be best stated by what Nicolai Ouroussoff said in ‘Future Vision Banished to the Past ‘ diligently equaling the bulldozing of Nakagin Capsule Tower, â€Å" †¦ like all great edifices, it is the crystallisation of a far-reaching cultural ideal. Its being besides stands as a powerful reminder of waies non taken, of the possibility of universes shaped by different sets of values.† For pupils like me who are occupied in the perceptual experience and enquiry and architecture of infinites, and in the comprehension of people utilizing these infinites, I presume it to be sensible to state that we oft view these infinites from another’s position, but overlook their context and portraiture. We can state that metropoliss are touchable composings, but as Lefebvre ( 1974 ) comments, the societal building of metropoliss and topographic points is a critical component in how people see the environments that surround them. Representations of topographic points evoke the imagined every bit good as the existent ; Calvino ( 1974 ) in his Invisible Cities provinces, â€Å"The oculus does non see things, but images of things that mean other things.† The metropolis and its portraiture in film provide alone vantage points from which we can deconstruct public infinites in ways that long-established scientific disciplines do non let us. The metropolis is a character. Its history is romanticized. Its hereafter is fantasized. Its present signifier contains at one time a inactive record of its history and the dynamic elements which shape its hereafter. The character of a metropolis is determined by a synthesis between its physical construction and its societal skin color it evolves out of a duologue between the forces of past and present. It expands, keeping its ain signifier in memory while being thrust into an unsure hereafter. And now, to this noise of forces at work on the character of the metropolis comes a new voice. One which brings vision to the procedure of development: movie images and future environments. Architects and contrivers have traditionally focused attending on the present physical and societal demands of the urban environment. With the dynamic technological and societal alterations of the 19Thursdayand 20Thursdaycentury it became progressively necessary to gestate the hereafter of the metropolis beyond the incremental alterations which had characterized its historical development. While clearly a self-aware act of religion in the viability of the metropolis as a cultural establishment, future visions were besides an avowal of our possible to make the hereafter. We can foretell economic impacts and industrial end products, forecast population tendencies etc but statistics do non make a vision for the hereafter. The procedure of visualizing alternate hereafters of a metropolis is phenomenon specific to the 19Thursdayand 20Thursdaycenturies. The heritage of this modern-day signifier, born out of the extremist transmutations of the industrial revolution emerged in the mid-19Thursdaycentury as an intrinsic procedure in determining the signifier of the metropolis. Presented though a scope of formats- literature, pulling media and in movies, these visions created a agencies to help determination doing about the hereafter of the metropolis. These images represented theoretical, bad or even fanciful visions of what the metropolis could be. In the development of the pre-industrial metropolis, the hereafter was basically an extension of the yesteryear. In the 19Thursdaycentury, the hereafter of the metropolis took on an individuality of its ain which could be moulded by the visions of its society. For the first clip the urban environment was conceived as a moral force for without a unequivocal hereaf ter, its society jointly engaged in the procedure of its ain development. The demand for happening an appropriate hereafter of the metropolis became a procedure of contriving the hereafter of the metropolis. In 1939 New York Worlds Fair, inspired by the heroic poem them, â€Å"Building the World of Tomorrow† , presented an array of futuristic images and signifiers. The hereafter of the metropolis was detailed in the â€Å"Futurama† , a huge scale theoretical account of a typical urban Centre in the twelvemonth 1960. Produced by industrial interior decorator Norman Bel Geddes, this exhibition was to act upon a coevals of urban contrivers. The hereafter of a metropolis continues to a subject of literature and architectural rendition. Following traditions established modern-day visions while limited in public handiness, continue to propose their viability in determining our construct of the urban hereafter. Although supplying an of import function in our apprehension of the metropolis up to this really twenty-four hours, print media is inherently limited in its range and influence. Gesture images have the potency for rendering the hereafter in such a provocative new manner. Unique to this medium are three mechanisms which empower movie with an exceeding ability to convey thoughts. The first relates to the indispensable nature of the movie experience. While demanding of the spectator a suspension of incredulity, film creates a province of head which heightens the world of the clip and topographic point rendered in the movie. Although non a replacement for real-world experiences, the consequence of the movie is to capture the kernel of a narrative and render in a touchable context. By leting us to ‘live’ in the hereafter as if it already existed, movie provides an chance to measure the societal and physical effects of a peculiar vision. A 2nd property of film is handiness. Cinema is a democratic medium which invites engagement by a broad public audience. The visions of designers and other interior decorators working in print media communicate chiefly to other professionals go forthing the populace mostly incognizant of their work. Third, the genre of scientific discipline fiction provides a format for non-traditional interior decorators to go on prosecuting in the procedure of visualising the hereafter of the metropolis. While artistic visions of the hereafter were popular in the 19Thursdaycentury, the consequence of their work began to worsen with the bend of the century. The projections of designers and other traditionally responsible for the signifier of the metropolis began to take clasp in the early portion of this century. While supplying a more rational mentality on the hereafter, these visions besides began to take the signifier of existent proposals for the metropolis. Within the kingdom of scientific discipline fiction film, managers, set interior decorators, industrial interior decorators and host of other ‘visual futurist’ could prosecute in suggesting alternate hereafter for the metropolis. In researching the impact of movie, it is of import to understand that visions of the hereafter in every medium are plants of fiction. In developing a model for the rendition of a narrative, movie creates a scene in clip and topographic point. Essential to our apprehension of the narrative, the physical environment of the movie typically organize a background to our events which are more meaningful. In movies which with future environments, the scene may go every bit of import as the events which occur within it. The coming of movie allowed society to research possible hereafters are placed in the class of Science fiction. Although a cinematic extension of traditional airy projections in other media, the genre of scientific discipline fiction movies have been misunderstood and delegated to the function of phantasy. The purpose of this survey is to research movies which focus on the physical and cultural facets of the metropolis. While in many instances films suggest progresss in scientific discipline and engineering, it is clearly non the primary motive within the context of the narrative. However they are categorized in the cinematic medium, specific sci-fi movies have had a voltaic consequence on our construct of urban hereafter. Blending constructs and images from disparate sources- traditional renditions of architecture and urban design, progresss in scientific discipline and engineering, art, literature and other medium from the 19Thursdaycentury, these movies created a vision which influenced the signifier of the metropolis in the 20Thursdaycentury. In following the nature of this influence, it is possible to associate constructs and images from specific movies straight to construct illustrations in the metropolis. For illustration, the perpendicular graduated table and fictile articulation of the interior infinites in the movieThingss to Come ( 1936 )is strikingly similar to atrium infinites of the hotel developed by the Hyatt corporation along the east seashore of United States of America. However, this attitude underestimates the productive consequence these movies have on our apprehension of the hereafter. The influence of these visions affected both the general populace and those professionals involved in the design of the metropolis. In organizing public outlooks about the hereafter, these movies provided a benchmark which professional interior decorators are obligated to react to. â€Å"As the mist began to clear† , wrote German manager Fritz Lang on his first visit to Manhattan in 1924, â€Å"a metropolis of huge proportions began to emerge. Filled with visible radiation and energy. The looming steeples of edifices pierced the clouds while everyplace people and machines raced about†¦Ã¢â‚¬ For Lang, the metropolis of New York became a symbol for the societal struggles built-in in a modern metropolis, and the inspiration for provocative urban vision he was subsequently to show in his movie. While there exists a scope of Science fiction movies which articulate the formal composing of the future metropolis in deepness, two illustrations possibly be singled out for the intelligence and influence of their vision, every bit good as the contrasting historical places which they occupy in the development of this of this genre of movie devising. Viewed together, the movies Metropolis ( 1927 ) and Blade Runner ( 1982 ) encompass virtually the full spectrum of cinematic visions of the metropolis. In these movies the metropolis emerges as an built-in character within the model of the narrative. It is the really nature of this character- both the strength of its physical scene and the peculiar relationship which the histrions have to this environment, which create a realistic context for conceive ofing the hereafter of a metropolis. The physical and societal urban environment which these two movies undertaking is at one time familiar and radically different. The kineticss generated by these enigmas gives the movies a 3-dimensional texture, a quality which moves the experience of the movie beyond the single images it represents. Fritz Lang’s vision of the metropolis inCitiesestablished film as the unequivocal medium for jointing the hereafter of the urban environment in the 20Thursdaycentury. The subject and ocular linguistic communication of the movie have influenced virtually every other movie on the topic to day of the month. The urban hereafter ofBlade Runner,a vision of Los Angeles in the twelvemonth 2019 is borrowing in subject and image fromMetropolis, the usage of engineering and modern-day production techniques setsBlade Runnerapart from other movies of its coevals. In developing an apprehension of the mechanisms which consequence alteration in the composing of the urban environment, it is clear that movies play an of import function in determining its hereafter. The demand for visualizing the hereafter, emerging out of the societal and technological transmutations of the industrial revolution, found an appropriate vehicle for look in the modern-day medium of scientific discipline fiction film. Event that you find funny The novel that I had chosen is The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroy. From this novel, I am touched and sad, I also find funny in a part of story. The event that I find funny is La Charlotte sings Margarita in Chapter 6. From the beginning, on Friday morning, La Charlotte receives a letter warning her not to sing that night or she would lose her voice forever. The letter is written by the Phantom, Erik because he wants his â€Å"angle of the music†, Christine Dead to sing at that night. Nevertheless, La Charlotte ignores the letter, she does not believe and cannot think that how bad she sing! That night, the two director, Monsieur Firming and Monsieur Armband occupy Box 5 prove that the Opera Ghost does not exist. When La Charlotte takes the stage, Monsieur Firming hears a voice. They sense that someone in near them, actually that is the Phantom, Erik. When La Charlotte begins a love song, he voice cracks and she sounds l ike a toad, â€Å"crack, crack, crack. † At that moment, many people are laugh and feel very funny. La Charlotte is shamed and afraid. Her sound is unpleasant to hear and cannot sing again. Besides, the chandelier breaks away from its ropes and crashes down onto the audience below.A woman is killed and many are hurt. Consequently, the Opera House is closed for a fortnight and La Carload's career ends in disgrace. In this part of the novel, I feel funny and sympathy for her. If she agrees the letter warning, maybe this encounter will not happened in her. 11. How the novels affect your life. Person. These are several reasons how he show his loyalty. Mr.. Deuteron is a close friend of Dry. Jelly. Mr.. Deuteron does not tell anyone when he finds out Dry. Jelly's secret. Instead, he wants to help. When Mr.. In our life, we also need this kind of friend. Furthermore, I had learnt that we must also loyalty to our friend and always try our best to help them. This is because â€Å"A friend in need is a friend indeed. † 12. How the message of love and sacrifice show the story? The novel that I had chosen is The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroy. From this novel, I find the message of love and sacrifice.True love requires sacrifice. There are three persons in this novel show their sacrifice, they are Rural, Christine and the Phantom, Erik. Rural sacrifice his life because he is willing to go through the dangerous passages and secret mazes in the Opera House in order to rescue his lover, Christine because Christine is kidnapped by Erik. Rural is a brave and loyalty person, he does not want his lover leaves him and in a dangerous condition. Although he meets the mysterious Persian who agrees to show him the way to Erie's house on the lake, suddenly, they are trapped in Erie's torture chamber?the room of mirrors. The pictures of flowers, trees, and rivers in the mirrors dance before their eyes. They suffer in the hot room. Nevertheless, he also loves Christine. On the other hand, Christine also sacrificed her love for Rural because she was a poor Norwegian singer whereas Rural was a rich French aristocrat. Besides, Christine loves Rural but is prepared to marry Erik because she could not bear to see her lover, Rural suffering in Erie's torture chamber. So she agrees to marry Erik and kisses him so that Rural and Persian may live. This part had shown she sacrifice her love. Apart from that, Erik also sacrifices his love. When Christine kisses him and agrees to marry him, he is touched by Christina's action in unconditionally. Consequently, he is willing to sacrifice his own happiness and his love for Christine. He decides to let the lovers go free. His sacrifice in this part of the story makes me feel very surprise, because this Christine and Rural marry and live happily together. I feel sorry to Erik and Joyful to Christine and Roll's happiness. In a nutshell, the three main characters in this novel bring a message to me, this is â€Å"Love and sacrifice†. In this novel, I learn a lesson, I must led my love go free because love cannot effort. If you really love a person, you may wish he or she always in a happily condition but not be eager for she or he to love you. Love is sacrifice but not force him or her to love you. This message will help me how to love a person really in the future. 13. Furthermore, Poole had worked for 20 years in Drollery's house. He also bought chemical for the doctor without tell anyone. On the other hand, the novel The Phantom of the Opera also shows its loyalty.Christine is loyal to her music tutor, Erik. This is because she is very grateful and compassionate. She agreed to be the wife of ‘poor, unhappy Erik. She also tears between for old flame and loyalty to Erik. Furthermore, Rural show his loyalty to Christine, he fell in love with Christine four years ago, and when Christine reappeared on the scene, he immediately renewed his relationship with her. Moreover, he also disregards his brother's advice about taking Christine away from Erik. Then, the Persian, who had known Erik in the past, and wants to prevent him from destroying himself by destroying the relationship between Christine and Rural.Apart from that, Madame Girl, she is kind, motherly and sympathetic, who is also loyal to Erik, she tried to stop people from taking about him and obey the Phantom by keeping Box 5 for him. She thinks and speaks carefully to him. In a nutshell, the both novel completely show a similar moral value is loyalty. In our life, we also need this kind of friend. Event in this novel that I had supposed not to happen is Dry. Jelly make the drug that can separate the good and evil sides which had destroys many people. These are several reasons why I suppose this event not to happen in this novel. Dry. Jelly is a respected by many persons because he is a doctor. Nevertheless, he use and waste future before him. Instead of helping mankind he produce a drug which control and change him. He conducts experiment to separate the good and evil sides within himself. He is successful and he takes the drug himself. This can show when he t urn him to Mr.. Hyde, he trample over Die's body without any sympathy and he kill Sir Dangers Care. Nevertheless, he thinks that he can escape punishment by using Mr.. When Mr.. Hyde gives compensation to Die's family blackmailed . This part shows he is loyalty to Dry. Jelly.Third reason is laboratory for a few day, he become to worry and go to Mr.. De uteron's to ask for help. Even after Dry. Jelly ends his own life, Mr.. Deuteron does not reveal anything to the outsiders so as to protect Dry. Jelly ‘s good image. 13. State the moral value that similar in the both novels The novel that I had chosen is Dry Jelly and Mr.. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson and The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroy. The moral value that similar had clearly shown in the both novel is loyalty. In the novel Dry. Jel ly and Mr.. Hyde, the lawyer, Mr.. Deuteron, Dry. Jelly's good friend, Dry. Lyon and Dry.Jelly's servant, Poole are show their loyalty while in the novel The Phantom of the Opera, â€Å"the angle of the music†, Christine and a rich French aristocrat, Victims De Shaggy(Rural) , the Persian and Madame Girl also show their loyalty. Mr.. Deuteron is a close friend of Dry. Jelly. Mr.. Deuteron does not tell anyone when he finds out Dry. Jelly's secret. Instead,he wants to help. He finds the walking stick which is the weapon to kill Sir Dangers Care is he presented to Dry. Jelly. Nevertheless, he keeps the secret to safeguard Dry. Jelly's good name. Mr.. Deuteron also tryst his best to help Dry. Jelly, he think that Dry.Jelly is being blackmailed. Besides, Dry. Jelly's good friend, Dry. Lyon also loyalty towards Dry. Jelly because he does not tell Dry. Jelly's secret to anyone when he know about the drug which can be separate the good and evil side is made by Dry. Jelly. Then, Dry. Jelly's servant, Poole also shows his loyalty toward his master because he followed Dry. Jelly's instructions which allow Mr.. Hyde to in and out from his house. Furthermore, we must also loyalty to our friend and always try our best to help them. This is because â€Å"A friend in need is a friend indeed. † 14. Choose a lesson from the story that you can share with your friends. The novel that I had chosen is Dry Jelly and Mr..Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The lesson friends. I think that this lesson is the most suitable to share with my friends because this novel had clearly shown its loyalty. In this novel, there are three person shows their loyalty, they are Dry. Jelly and Mr.. Hyde, the lawyer, Mr.. Deuteron, Dry. Jelly's good friend, Dry. Lyon and Dry. Jell y's servant, Poole. Jelly.Nevertheless, he keeps the secret to safeguard Dry. Jelly's good name. Mr.. Deuteron also tryst his best to help Dry. Jelly, he worry that Dry. Jelly is being blackmailed. Even after Dry. Jelly ends his own life, image. In these parts, he clearly shows his loyalty to Dry. Jelly. Besides, Dry. Jelly's good friend, Dry. Lyon also loyalty towards Dry. Jelly because he does not tell Dry. Jelly's secret to anyone when he know about the connection between Dry. Jelly and Mr.. Hyde and the drug which can be separate the good and evil side is made by Dry. Jelly. He is so shocked and shaken about the whole matter.Nevertheless, he does not tell anyone until he died, he only leaves a letter for Mr.. Deuteron which asks him only ca n open this letter if Dry. Jelly is disappeared or died. Why he does reveal this secret? This is because his loyalty to his good friend, Dry. Jelly. Then, Dry. Jelly's had worked for 20 years in Dry. Jelly's house. He also bought chemical for the doctor without tell anyone. Moreover, he concern about Dry. Jelly is being blackmailed because he feels something wrong that Dry. Jelly had locked himself in the laboratory for a week. Without wasting any times, he quickly goes to see Mr.. Deuteron for help. From these parts of the story, we can clearly see that Poole is a loyalty servant towards Dry. Jelly. I think that this lesson can clearly share to my friends. In our life, we need this kind of friend. Furthermore, we must also loyalty to our friend and always try our best to help them. This is because â€Å"A friend in need is a friend indeed. † Are you loyalty to your friends? 15. Which setting of place that you feel gives you an anxious feeling? Give reasons. Why? The novel tha t I had chosen is Dry Jelly and Mr.. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The setting of place that I feel gives me an anxious feeling is in the Dry.Jelly's laboratory because the events had happened in this place attack me and bring interest to me to read. In this part, many people will feel anxious and curious to read continually. After the dead of Dry. Lyon, Dry. Jelly had shut himself in the laboratory for a week. Consequently, this action makes his servant, Poole concerns and finds there is something wrong, he suspects that there had been foul pay. Without wasting any times, he quickly goes to see Mr.. Deuteron for help. This part of the story makes me anxious and curious what had happened to Dry. Jelly? Why Dry. Jelly locks himself in the laboratory? Is true Dry.Jelly had murdered by Mr.. Hyde? Many questions come out from my mind. Then, Mr.. Deuteron follows Poole back to Dry. Jelly's house. When Poole knocks on the laboratory door and informs Dry. Jelly that Mr.. Deuteron wants t o see him, a voice from within say that he does not see anyone. Been murdered eight days ago. The murderer is now in Dry. Jelly's laboratory. From this part, I am shock because how Mr.. Hyde come into the laboratory without noticed by anyone? What he does to Dry. Jelly? Upon this condition, what is the action will done by them? Next, Mr.. Deuteron and Poole decide to break in the laboratory door. When they enter the room, they find the body of a man, his face to the floor. Who is the man? I am too impatient to know, is the man is Dry. Jelly? Upon turning it on its back, they see the face of Mr.. Hyde but they do not find Dry. Jelly here. I am very surprised and cannot believe. Mr.. Hyde killed by whom? Where is Dry. Jelly? In chapter 13, I had known and understood what had happened. Actually, Dry. Jelly conducts a drug which can separate the good and evil side. But unfortunately, he is suffering in his double life because the evil side of Mr.. Hyde becomes strong and powerful. Finall y, he led him to his tragic death. In the laboratory, I think this event of the story is the most interesting and many people impatient to know. 16. State one place in the story and describe the significant event that happened at the place mentioned. The novel that I had chosen is Dry Jelly and Mr.. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson. The significant event had happened in the place in this story is in the Dry. Jelly's laboratory because the events had happened in this place attack me and bring interest to me to read. In this part, many people will feel anxious and curious to read continually. These are several events had happened in this place. After the dead of Dry.Lyon, Dry. Is true Dry. Jelly had murdered by Mr.. Hyde? Many questions come out from my mind. Then, Mr.. Deuteron follows Poole back to Dry. Jelly's house. When Poole knocks on the laboratory door and informs Dry. Jelly that Mr.. Totters wants to e him, a voice from within say that he does not see anyone. The voice is not that of Dry. Jelly, but Mr.. Hyde. Poole makes a guess that Dry. Jelly had been murdered eight days ago. The murderer is now in Dry. Jelly's laboratory. From this part, I am shock because how Mr.. Hyde come into the laboratory without noticed by anyone? What he does to Dry. Jelly? Upon this condition, what is the action will done by them? Next, Mr.. But unfortunately, he is suffering in his double life because the evil side of Mr.. Hyde becomes strong and powerful. Finally, he led him to his tragic death. In the laboratory, I think this event in this place is very significant because this bring us interest and give us anxious to read.

What Everyone Should Know About World War I

What Everyone Should Know About World War I World War I was an extremely bloody war that engulfed Europe from 1914 to 1919, with huge losses of life and little ground lost or won. Fought mostly by soldiers in trenches, World War I saw an estimated 10 million military deaths and another 20 million wounded. While many hoped that World War I would be the war to end all wars, in actuality, the concluding peace treaty set the stage for World War II. Dates: 1914-1919 Also Known As: The Great War, WWI, the First World War The Start of World War I The spark that started World War I was the assassination of Austrias Archduke Franz Ferdinand and his wife Sophie. The assassination occurred on June 28, 1914, while Ferdinand was visiting the city of Sarajevo in the Austro-Hungarian province of Bosnia-Herzegovina. Although Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the nephew of Austrias emperor and heir-apparent to the throne, was not very well liked by most, his assassination by a Serb nationalist was viewed as a great excuse to attack Austria-Hungarys troublesome neighbor, Serbia. However, instead of reacting quickly to the incident, Austria-Hungary made sure they had the backing of Germany, with whom they had a treaty before they proceeded. This gave Serbia time to get the backing of Russia, with whom they had a treaty. The calls for back-up didnt end there. Russia also had a treaty with France and Britain. This meant that by the time Austria-Hungary officially declared war on Serbia on July 28, 1914, an entire month after the assassination, much of Europe had already become entangled in the dispute. At the start of the war, these were the major players (more countries joined the war later): Allied Forces (a.k.a. the Allies): France, the United Kingdom, RussiaCentral Powers: Germany and Austria-Hungary Schlieffen Plan vs. Plan XVII Germany didnt want to fight both Russia in the east and France to the west, so they enacted their long-standing Schlieffen Plan. The Schlieffen Plan was created by Alfred Graf von Schlieffen, who was the chief of the German general staff from 1891 to 1905. Schlieffen believed that it would take about six weeks for Russia to mobilize their troops and supplies. So, if Germany placed a nominal number of soldiers in the east, the majority of Germanys soldiers and supplies could be used for a quick attack in the west. Since Germany was facing this exact scenario of a two-front war at the beginning of World War I, Germany decided to enact the Schlieffen Plan. While Russia continued to mobilize, Germany decided to attack France by going through neutral Belgium. Since Britain had a treaty with Belgium, the attack on Belgium officially brought Britain into the war. While Germany was enacting its Schlieffen Plan, the French enacted their own prepared plan, called Plan XVII. This plan was created in 1913 and called for quick mobilization in response to a German attack through Belgium. As German troops moved south into France, French and British troops tried to stop them. At the end of the First Battle of the Marne, fought just north of Paris in September 1914, a stalemate was reached. The Germans, who had lost the battle, had made a hasty retreat and then dug in. The French, who couldnt dislodge the Germans, also dug in. Since neither side could force the other to move, each sides trenches became increasingly elaborate. For the next four years, the troops would fight from these trenches. A War of Attrition From 1914 to 1917, soldiers on each side of the line fought from their trenches. They fired artillery onto the enemys position and lobbed grenades. However, each time military leaders ordered a full-fledged attack, the soldiers were forced to leave the safety of their trenches. The only way to overtake the other sides trench was for the soldiers to cross No Mans Land, the area between the trenches, on foot. Out in the open, thousands of soldiers raced across this barren land in the hopes of reaching the other side. Often, most were hewn down by machine-gun fire and artillery before they even got close. Because of the nature of trench warfare, millions of young men were slaughtered in the battles of World War I. The war quickly became one of attrition, which meant that with so many soldiers being killed daily, eventually, the side with the most men would win the war. By 1917, the Allies were starting to run low on young men. The U.S. Enters the War and Russia Gets Out The Allies needed help and they were hoping that the United States, with its vast resources of men and materials, would join on their side. However, for years, the U.S. had clung to their idea of isolationism (staying out of other countries problems). Plus, the U.S. just didnt want to be involved in a war that seemed so far away and that didnt seem to affect them in any great way. However, there were two major events that changed American public opinion about the war. The first occurred in 1915 when a German U-boat (submarine) sunk the British ocean liner RMS Lusitania. Considered by Americans to be a neutral ship that carried mostly passengers, Americans were furious when the Germans sank it, especially since 159 of the passengers were Americans. The second was the Zimmermann Telegram. In early 1917, Germany sent Mexico a coded message promising portions of U.S. land in return for Mexico joining World War I against the United States. The message was intercepted by Britain, translated, and shown to the United States. This brought the war to U.S. soil, giving the U.S. a real reason to enter the war on the side of the Allies. On April 6, 1917, the United States officially declared war on Germany. The Russians Opt Out As the United States was entering World War I, Russia was getting ready to get out. In 1917, Russia became swept up in an internal revolution that removed the czar from power. The new communist government, wanting to focus on internal troubles, sought a way to remove Russia from World War I. Negotiating separately from the rest of the Allies, Russia signed the Brest-Litovsk peace treaty with Germany on March 3, 1918. With the war in the east ended, Germany was able to divert those troops to the west in order to face the new American soldiers. Armistice and the Versailles Treaty The fighting in the west continued for another year. Millions more soldiers died, while little land was gained. However, the freshness of the American troops made a huge difference. While the European troops were tired from years of war, the Americans remained enthusiastic. Soon the Germans were retreating and the Allies were advancing. The end of the war was near. At the end of 1918, an armistice was finally agreed upon. The fighting was to end on the 11th hour of 11th day of the 11th month (i.e. 11 am on Nov. 11, 1918). For the next several months, diplomats argued and compromised together in order to come up with the Versailles Treaty. The Versailles Treaty was the peace treaty that ended World War I; however, a number of its terms were so controversial that it also set the stage for World War II. The carnage left behind by the end of World War I was staggering. By the end of the war, an estimated 10 million soldiers were killed. That averages to about 6,500 deaths a day, every day. Plus, millions of civilians were also killed. World War I is especially remembered for its slaughter for it was one of the bloodiest wars in history.

How to become a kindergarten teacher

How to become a kindergarten teacher As far as teaching careers go, the idea of being a kindergarten teacher seems very appealing. The students are young, not yet subject to the social pressures of middle and high school, and eager to learn about the world. Maybe you see yourself singing songs and helping kids take those tentative first steps on their educational road. But while the job does include those things, the idealized vision of singing about ABCs isn’t the whole picture. Kindergarten teachers are educators first and foremost, and have the daunting task of making sure that many students’ first formal classroom helps set them up for a good education later on. What does a kindergarten teacher do?Because of the basic nature of what early elementary school educators teach, there can be misconceptions about how â€Å"easy† it is to be a kindergarten teacher. Sure, they typically don’t teach advanced calculus, but they do need to be able to teach in a variety of subject areas, while balanci ng young students’ complex needs for social and interpersonal development. A kindergarten teacher’s duties may include:Teaching lessons and basic academic skills across different disciplines (reading, writing, math, science, etc.)Managing classroom behaviorPlanning lessons and curriculumDeveloping educational play activitiesKindergarten teachers can be found in any elementary-level school, including public schools, private schools, or magnet schools. The school week is typically a straightforward number of daytime hours, but the job may also require additional time spent in the mornings, evenings, and off-hours to prepare for school, participate in professional development, or oversee extracurricular activities/school programs. Depending on how the school is structured, kindergarten teachers may have one main class per year, or two (morning and afternoon sessions). What skills do kindergarten teachers need?First and foremost, kindergarten teachers need to have a balance between educational skills and people skills, given that their students may have yet to master a number of life skills and may have a broad variety of needs and skill levels. Here are some of the core skills you’ll need as a kindergarten teacher:Teaching Skills:  For many students, the kindergarten classroom may be the first place they’ll encounter formal lessons on reading, writing, etc. A kindergarten teacher needs to be able to teach the basic building blocks for students with different skills and abilities.Kid-Friendliness:  If you don’t like kids, then spending all day, every day handling the needs of 5–7 year olds just may not be the right teaching career for you. The job definitely requires a good measure of patience and enthusiasm for working with young kids- and all their quirks.Creativity:  Kindergarten is special because it mixes in play and hands-on activities before students start to move on to more formal classes in later grades. A ki ndergarten teacher should have a flair for coming up with fun, creative ways to use educational concepts in the classroom.Organizational Skills:  Kids can bring chaos, especially in large groups. The adult in the room should not also bring chaos. Organizational skills are a cornerstone of any teaching profession, and being able to organize and efficiently manage a classroom full of little kids is an immensely useful skill unto itself. What do you need to become a kindergarten teacher?Unlike preschool teachers, who may not need a four-year degree, becoming a kindergarten teacher typically requires a four-year degree in early childhood education. Many teachers also go on to receive a master’s degree as well. Public school kindergarten teachers are required to be licensed, but this step is not necessarily required for private school teachers. You should consult with your state’s licensing policies, as well as those of your target school/district to see what the specific requirements are.How much do kindergarten teachers get paid?According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median annual salary for kindergarten teachers is $55,490. This can vary depending on the teacher’s experience and the type of school. What’s the outlook for kindergarten teachers? This is a field that will continue to grow (or at least maintain) given that kids are a continually replenishing natural resource and will always need quality teachers to guide them through those early educational steps. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics expects that the demand for kindergarten teachers will grow by about 6% through 2024.
